Garza, Kasandra (MW) Behind Bars: Rookie Year 100

This show is about Rookie Correctional officers in a New Mexico prison, one of the toughest in the nation. It follows rookie year correctional officers and how they handle criminals, or learn to handle them.
The officers are taught to defend themselves and where to look for weapons (it is kind of gross.) You will also see who lasts at the job and who doesn't. Season one just came out and you can still find episodes on A&E. the executive producer is John Hirsch of Lucky8 t.v. They are an unscripted television production company. They also produce "Lockdown" on NatGeo which basically follows the lives of people in prison.

Lopez, Kenya (MW) Narcos 100

I would like to show the class the new crime drama television series called Narcos. It just debuted on Netflix August 28, 2015. It is the real-life story of Colombian cocaine drug lord Pablo Escobar and police efforts to catch him. The first season consists of 10 episodes. Narcos, was created by Chris Brancato, Carlos Bernard and Doug Miro. As soon as I saw the first episode, I was hooked.... I can't stop watching! It is a great series, filled with crime, action, and drama! I really love that the series shows real documents, videos, pictures and presents us with several real life facts of Pablo Escobar throughout the episodes. It is crazy to see the cartels and the police in a constant bloody battle that never seems to end.

McElwee, Shelby (MW) Scream: the TV Series 100

If you've ever seen the Scream movies, you know it's a cliche slasher movie that pokes fun at cliche slasher movies. MTV decided to turn this idea into a TV series, stretching the first season into ten episodes.

Turning a slasher movie into a TV series makes it much easier to grow attached to more characters, as there aren't just one or two main ones involved and it's stretched over a longer period of time. One of the characters even claims, "You can't do a slasher movie as a TV series. Slasher movies burn bright and fast." This show gives a new life (and mask) to the Scream movies.

The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, also known as Awkward Black Girl, is a web series following the fictitious life of the main character, J. J describes herself as being awkward and black, "the two worst things that you can be." She hates her job, struggles to handle her love life, and can't seem to approach uncomfortable social situations like a normal person. In order to cope with her awkwardness, J likes to write humorous and violent rap lyrics.

This show is definitely one that most of us can relate to. After all, at what point when walking down a long hallway do you say hi to a stranger? There is no guide to these things.

The 100 is a Sci-Fi TV series on the CW network that has a spin off towards the survival of humanity. The plot of the series begins with a space station named "The Ark" which is the place where the remainder of the human species lives. In this "ark" there is a prison of 100 people; these 100 are all criminals that have committed a crime against any sort of authority. Since this is a CW show, most of the criminals are attractive and athletic teenagers. The main dilemma of the series is that the Earth is inhabitable in The Ark's eyes, and they ship the prisoners to earth every 10 years to see if the Earth is still inhabitable. The people have landed and drama has already begun.

The story follows Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook from a ghost named Ryuk that grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know. This an animated show that spans 26 episodes and also had a live action movie adaptation.

The show is setup as if it were a legitimate talk show, but it is the complete opposite. In the beginning seasons Eric Andre and Hannibal Buress (the hosts) bring in their own "celebrites," or people dressed like common known celebrities, to interview them with ridiculous useless questions. I enjoy the show because it is funny and unpredictable. The show started out on little to no budget and is now on Adult Swim featuring real celebrities in every episode. Over The Garden Wall was a Cartoon Network mini-series created and produced by Patrick McHale. After he worked on the network's previous shows (Adventure Time, Flapjack) they decided to fund it as a mini-series and air it over the course of one week as the network's Halloween special for 2014. Taking strong influence from classic cartoons dating back to 1923's "Alice's Wonderland" Over The Garden Wall balances quirky comedy and musical tie-ins common in modern cartoons with some very dark themes and eerie imagery. Multiple meanings are also inherent to the story, leading a second or third watching of it to be just as entertaining and thought-provoking as the first. Co-created and produced by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender tells the story of a young boy named Aang, as he and his friends embark on a journey to defeat Fire Lord Ozai and end the oppression of the Fire Nation. Inspired by East and Southeast Asian culture, the show blends Japanese anime with western style cartoons which results in beautiful animation and rich storytelling. The Emmy Award winning-series is known for its great amount of humor, visuals, and heart and is a story that still holds up today since its 2005 release.

Kingin with Tyga is a show that follows the life of the Rapper "Tyga" and shows how he spends his days. It blows my mind to watch this show and see all the crazy things that he buys. Tyga, is Kylie Jenners boyfriend so on the season finale it shows her in there before he goes on Tour with Chris brown. I was interested in this show but after watching the season it is almost as bad as Keeping up with the Kardashians.

The show I chose is called Oddities. It premiered on the Discovery Channel and played on it's sister channel, The Science Channel. I however, found it while binging on netflix; so it's both a subscription-paid show as well as a advertiser-based network. The executive producers are David George and Brent Montgomery and the show aired in November of 2010

Oddities is a show that follows two Manhattan shop owners named Evan and Mike. The shop is called Obscura if that gives you an idea of what they sell. Evan and Mike, along with their buyer Ryan, go all around the city looking for the most odd keep sakes and nick-naks. On one episode you may see a fossilized cat and in another you may see an embalming machine from the old days. You can watch this show forhours because it never get's boring. You never know what Evan and Mike will find next. Along the way they give you a brief history lesson on whatever their dealing with. It's a way to learn about some things you may have never thought about.

I felt this clip was a perfect example on how it's more than just another pawn shop show, it's obscure.

It's up to Ben now to take care of that little girl alone but he isn't really alone he's got his friends to help him out.

Documentary Now! is an American mockumentary series that parodies the styles of many popular documentaries, poking fun at certain styles. You can see them realistically spoofing VICE documentaries in an episode about a fictitious drug lord. Each episode is a different parody, containing different gags and hilarious mockery. The show could be compared to another similar show called Portlandia where they spoof the lives of many Portland young, hip residents.

The series stars Portlandia star Fred Armisen, SNL star Bill Hader, and talk show host Seth Myers. The show just premiered on August 20, 2015 and is featured on IFC.

However, most of the series focuses on Kimmy Schmidt and her adventurous journey of adapting to her surroundings.

This Netflix original series is a comedy about two women, Grace and Frankie, who find out their husbands have been romantically involved secretly for 20 years. When their husbands finally tell them, Grace and Frankie must cope with this life altering news. It's a really modern show with two polar opposite characters. Grace is a retired cosmetic mogul, while Frankie is a hippie art teacher.

The executive producers are Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, who created the series. Jane Fonda, who plays Grace, and Lily Tomlin, who plays Frankie, are also producers.

Producer is a comedic South Korean TV drama that follows four characters who work for a one of the largest broadcasting stations in South Korea, KBS. Baek Seung Chan is the lead male who has just been hired in the KBS entertainment and variety department and must deal with his stubborn and outspoken boss while balancing a somewhat non-existent love life.
Everything about the drama is real except for the characters acting out certain situations and love-lines. Producer is based on what real South Korean variety show PD's, editors, scriptwriters, and more have to do at KBS including dealing with broadcast cancellations, citations, successes, and program planning.
Producer is amazing and it literally outlines what I want to do in the future!

Mr. Robot follows the story of Elliot, an antisocial hacker-turned-cyber-vigellante who's recruited by a mysterious anarchist known only as "Mr. Robot". Together with a ragtag group of other misfit "hactivists", Elliot and Mr. Robot plot a heist to break into a high security data facility and take down one of the world's largest corporations, E Corp.

This drama-thriller's unique take on the hacker genre focuses on exploring its characters just as much as it strives to portray the gritty, technical hardwiring that goes into the underground world of hacking. Scream Queens is an upcoming American horror-comedy anthology television series created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. The series is scheduled to be broadcast on Fox, and will air on Tuesdays at 9:00 pm (ET), beginning on September 22, 2015. The series had its world premiere at the 2015 Comic-Con. The first season will be centered on a series of murders involving the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority. Although this show has yet to premiere, I believe it will captivate its audience through its juxtaposition of comedy and horror, showcased through a wide variety of celebrity guest appearances including Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, and many more.

Bermea, Gabriel (TTh) Danger 5 100

Danger 5 is one of the most ridiculous shows I've seen. It is an Australian comedy series that takes place during World War II, but it is also a spoof of the 60's spy/action genre. The premise for each episode has the same basic plot, a group of Allied spies, Danger 5, try to stop Hitler from taking over the world. On their missions, the team encounter many unique enemies such as Japanese robot pilots, bullet proof soldiers made of diamond, and Nazi dinosaurs. The second season was released earlier this year, and the producers haven't said anything about continuing the series.

'How to Make It in America' was cancelled after the second season at the end of 2011 due to a lack of ratings as well as HBO's desire for new programs. Wayward Pines stars Matt Dillon, Melissa Leo, and Terrance Howard, and is based on Blake Crouch's trilogy of Wayward Pines novels. It takes us to a town in Idaho with a dark and scary past. While investigating a missing person's case, secret service agent, Ethan Burke, finds himself trapped in a strange town after awaking from a car accident in the hospital. Although he tries several times to escape and leave the town, he finds that all roads lead him back to where he began. The town is seen to be "perfect" and "safe" just as long as you play by the rules. We soon discover that a large wall fences in all residents in Wayward Pines, Idaho and what lies beyond those walls is scarier than you could have ever imagined.

Peaky Blinders is British historical crime drama television series that first aired on BBC Two. It stars Cillian Murphy as a gangster operating in Birmingham, England in the early 1900s and shortly after World War I has ended. Tom Hardy stars in the second series as well. Peaky Blinders was created and written by Steven Knight and has a number of directors. I'm a huge fan of this series due to the historical accuracy and the grittiness each episode. Each character is quite dynamic making this a very entertaining and quality series.

I want to talk about Rookie Blue for my presentation. Rookie Blue is a Canadian police drama television series about 5 rookie cops; it shows how their lives have changed during their first years on the job. Each rookie is assigned a training officer, and they all have to deal with life on and off the job. There are 5 complete seasons, and they are currently airing the sixth one in the US on ABC. I watched all 5 seasons in 4 days. I was completely blown away by each episode. It is one of my favorite shows because it has a little bit of everything: drama, romance, comedy, action, and suspense. It is not your normal "cop" television show. It is one of the best. It was created by Tassie Cameron, Morwyn Brebner, and Ellen Vanstone. It stars Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Ben Bass, Matt Gordon, and many other phenomenal actors and actresses. They have covered so much of real life events on the show that are actually happening today. For example, in one episode one of the rookies shot a kid at a convenience store in self defense. No one believed it was self defense, and he was very close to being charged with murder. I've heard about cases similar to this one, and it was hard to imagine what police officers have to go through on a daily basis until I watched that particular episode. It is a show that will definitely open the viewer's eyes.

Ballers is a HBO orginal series that is created by Stephen Levinson, which is the same person that also created the hit HBO tv series shows Entourage and Boardwalk Empire. The main character Spencer Strasmore, played by "The Rock Dwayne Johnson," is a ex NFL football player that is trying to seek the same success in his post career by tackling the job of a financial manager for current players in the league. The show is raw, uncut, and gives a insight to what maybe really goes on in football players lives on and off the field. The series also is excutive produced by a number of people including Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Dany Garcia, Evan Reilly, and Rob Weis. I really recommend this show because it's a comedy that is also infused with enough drama surrounding the supporting characters that keeps bringing viewers back in. Laughlin, Nicholas (MW) Thank You and Sorry 100

Thank You and Sorry is a new docu-series that follows Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff. The series is an original to Google Play, and features real events from tour life, and well as made up situations. Guest stars include girlfriend and Girls show runner Lena Dunham, Colin Quinn, and Olivia Wilde. Each episode focuses on a city from Bleachers tour and song from their album Strange Desire. We learn the inspiration for certain songs from the album and what it means to Antonoff. The web series has been nominated for a Streamy Award, and Antonoff plans to do this with every album Bleachers produces.

I think this series is a very different and interesting show. There is nothing else that is like it currently on television or any other streaming service. I think it could be an interesting way for artists to reach out to fans.

Set in the fictional village of Roarton, Lancashire, the show beings after "The Rising" (a zombie apocalypse). During The Rising, deceased teenager Kieren Walker and thousands of other people who died in 2009 were re-animated as rabid zombies. A medication was found to bring consciousness back to the undead, returning their minds to who they were before dying. They are given contact lenses, cosmetics, and daily injections of medication to help them conceal their deceased status. They are officially referred to as sufferers of Partially Deceased Syndrome (PDS), and pejoratively known as "rotters". Many are haunted by returning memories of the atrocities they committed while rabid. In the village of Roarton, PDS sufferers face prejudice from the villagers upon their return. Banshee is an American action-drama television series created by Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler originally appearing on the Cinemax network beginning on January 11, 2013. The show Peaky Blinders is based in 1919 Birmingham, England. It is named after and lightly based off of a real criminal gang in the late 19th and early 20th century who were named "Peaky Blinders" because they were known for stitching razor blades into the front of their flat caps which they would use weapons.
Peaky Blinders is a British historical crime drama television series starring Cillian Murphy as a gangster in Birmingham, England. Peaky Blinders is produced by Caryn Mandabach who was also the producer of shows like The Cosby Show and That 70's show. The first series aired in 2013. You can now see seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix and they have a 3rd season under works.
The Peaky Blinders are a gang in Birmingham whom are feared but also respected. Their leader, Thomas Shelby, is a smart man and war hero. He is working to bring the family name from one of crooks to one of respect. The Shelby family leads the Peaky Blinders, and all of the men in the family were previously in WW1. Flashbacks to the war show it has had a lasting impact on their character. Special police and investigators are sent to Birmingham in hopes of stopping the Peaky Blinders in their illegal activities. This is where the show begins.

It first aired in July 2014 and he gathers people who have done CrossFit, Martial Arts, etc. I really think my classmates will find interest in this show because its not really a show that leaves you hanging. Serial is a podcast that I found on iTunes. It's is about a murder case that occurred 15 years ago and sent a 17 year old young man to prison for murder on very little evidence. The reporter takes you through what happened the day of the murder; what happened through out the trial; concurrent interviews with the prisoner himself along with other classmates of the individuals involved. It currently has one season with 12 episodes ranging from 32 minutes to 67 minutes and a second season will soon follow. The podcast is supported by WBEZ a Chicago radio station and audible.com. This is a very interesting and suspenseful series that teaches a person about the holes in the justice system here in America, how culture is relevant when formulating opinions, and how addicting entertainment is not limited to filmography.
