Snapped: She Made Me Do It is a True crime series that focuses on Women who have committed or been accused of murder. The Story of these female killers is done by using dramatic reenactments, witness testimonies and interviews with the case researchers. This show is a spin off show from the original show, Snapped, except this one focuses on female killers. Most episodes have a common theme of romance that goes bad, leading to murder. By the end of the show we find out if the accused killer is convicted on the crime or if they get away scot-free.

Bauman, Bella (TTH) Scarlet Heart: Ryeo 100

Scarlet Heart: Ryeo is a Korean TV show in which Hae Soo (female protagonist) travels back in time to the year 941 after drowning in a river. While her transition to this new era was difficult it is there that she falls in love with 4th Prince Wang So whom also later falls in love with her. They didn't always have it easy as living in the palace meant certain sacrifices, and regulations had to be met keeping them apart. We see their story unfold as the palace/empire itself is being threatened.
The main actors in this show are Lee Joon-gi as 4th Prince Wang So, Lee Ji-eun as Hae Soo, Kang Ha-neul as 8th Prince Wang Wook, Hong Jong-hyun as 3rd Prince Wang Yo, while the executive producers are Jo Jung-ho, Yang Min-suk (ko), Kim Kyu-tae. Hinamatsuri is an anime produced by studio Feel.   It is a Comedy/Slice of Life about Nitta Yoshifumi, a young, intellectual yakuza, lived surrounded by his beloved pots in his turf in Ashigawa. But one day a girl named Hina arrives in metal capsule and uses her telekinetic powers to force Nitta to allow her to live with him, putting an end to his leisurely lifestyle. Hina tends to lose control of herself, wreaking havoc both at school and in Nitta's organization. It's a 12 episode series that can be found on Crunchyroll.  100% recommend if you have an afternoon to kill and are in the mood for a feel good comedy.

"Explained" is a weekly docuseries from Vox paired with Netflix that debuted May 23rd, 2018 with one season containing 18 episodes and counting. The show opens by giving the title of the topic, a comma and finally the title of the show, for example, (The racial wealth gap, Explained) They are short episodes that touch on popular topics such as monogamy, tattoos, diets, marijuana, and women's pay. "Explained" offers an interesting explanation in a digestible form on topics that are most talked about nowadays. The description of the show is right there in the title, "Explained " really does explain popular topics by experts in a tasteful, understandable form. The show really opens the viewer's mind and asks questions that would have never have been asked or thought of before.

The Arrangement is a scripted E! television series in which a young aspiring actress auditions for a show with a huge movie star. They soon begin a relationship that's concealed by a contract and ten million dollars. The movie star is apart of an institute of the "higher mind" which is basically a reference toward scientology. The institution takes people against their will to make them a "better person". This causes many problems within their relationship and makes the audience question whether they're faking it or actually love each other.

Letterkenny is the story of a small town Canada that perfectly encapsulates what it's like to grow up and never leave your hometown. It began in 2016 and is already in its fifth season. It has been nominated for numerous awards and has taken home five of them in their home country. It's down home, country charm lies in the dialogue between the characters including their exaggerated "hick sayings." It is a show you can watch again and again and still find new jokes to laugh at. Written and starred in by Jared Keeso (Wayne) in addition to, Nathan Dales (Darry) and K Trevor Wilson (Squirrely Dan), they make up a trio of small-town hicks and the problems that arise when different factions, including the skids, the nativesm and the out of towners, in their community bump heads. The first two seasons of the show are on Hulu while the rest runs on CraveTV, a Canadian streaming service.

My golden show is Robotech, which is a science fiction franchise that began with an 85-episode anime television series produced by Harmony Gold USA in association with Tatsunoko Production and first released in the United States in 1985. It follows a Robotech Pilot, Rick Hunter, who gets dragged into an interstellar war between a spacefaring war mongering race and the Earth government. Rick and his squad of crack pilots make a name for themselves in the space fortress that is the STF-1 as their squadron becomes one of the best. But getting to the top doesn't come easy as Rick soon learns. At the time of me writing this you are able to watch the entire show on Netflix, but if taken down there are several sites that can stream the show.

"Liza On Demand" is a comedy on YouTube Premium that follows the misadventures of Liza, a young woman in Los Angeles who is in the gig economy for example Uber and Postmates. She starts working for an app called (Task it) and the premise is that is that in each episode Liza will take an odd job in order to achieve "Elite Status" to make a living for herself. The comedy is unique, because it stars YouTuber, Liza Koshy who has over 15 million subscribers, and it is one of the first YouTube Premium shows to do so.

El Internado is a Spanish show produced by Antena 3 that is based on a group of around 5 teenagers at a boarding school that is secluded out in the forest. The group encounters paranormal activity, missing students, and weird hiding places that all eventually end up leading back to Nazis and the war. The show also has many sub-plots including student-teacher relationship, and family turmoil, since the school also houses young children. While the show is currently not on Netflix anymore, it will most likely be back on within this year.

Weiss, Forrest (TTh) Manhunt 100

'Manhunt' on Netflix is all-in-all captivating. The series walks through the FBI's investigation of the UNA-Bomber and centers itself on the profiler and the UNA-Bomber. Showing how the bombs were made, how they were shipped, and just how incredibly smart the UNA-Bomber was. It almost makes you feel bad for the UNA-Bomber (yes even though he is insane) as you begin to learn about the UNA-Bombers upbringing and his college years. I find interest in psychological shows and this one had everything I needed to enjoy my genre. I highly recommend taking a weekend to watch this 1 season, series as I do not think you will regret it.

The Bureau created by Eric Rochant, is a French TV show following the life of agents at the DGSE (General Directorate of External Security) which is France's external security service. The Bureau is a political thriller and it is inspired upon real French political interest, therefore the agents spy in area such as North Africa and Middle east. Living under false identities, the agents have to search for good intelligence source. Guillaume Debailly is the hero, his codename is "Malotru" and throughout the story he gets confused between his real identity and who he really is. It is a very intriguing shows and very realistic.

The OA is a series that takes place in a small in the U.S. It starts out with a woman reuniting with her family after she had been missing since high school. She was believed to be kidnapped but there is a lot more to it than that. The show essentially deals with her adjusting back into normal life and finding out where she had gone and what she had been doing. The OA delves into dealing with near-death experiences and has a fun sci-fi element to it. There a many times when the story surprises you and you don't really expect it to go a certain way and I really enjoyed the aspect of not being able to predict what would happen.

I Am a Killer is a Netflix original series that debuted August 3rd, 2018 with 10 episodes, each about an hour long. The point behind the show is to share the stories of death row inmates about the event/tragedy that got them there. The show does a great job depicting the story through every angle of event. They start with the inmate on death row's story and allow them to explain how they believe it took place. Then they usually show you the district attorneys' angle with all the evidence and the account that's on record. Finally, they bring in anyone else who was involved that can help build the story: a first-hand witness, family members effected, the family member of the inmate. The show does an amazing job of letting the viewer make his or her own personal view just like if they were a juror on the stand.

Wehring, Megan (MW) The Paradise 100

The Paradise is a British television series that is based around a young woman from Peebles, Scotland, who moves in with her uncle to help him with his struggling dress shop. She soon takes another job across the street at the massive department store, the Paradise, where she becomes the rising star in sales. The show focuses on the classic rags to riches storyline, but with a nineteenth century twist with the role of women in the workplace. Also, a relationship between employer and employee is present. The young woman, Denise, is portrayed by Joanna Vanderham and Emun Elliott plays the owner of the store, John Moray. The series is co-produced by BBC Studios and Masterpiece; it can be viewed on Netflix. I think the show is worth the time as it shows a woman's ability to rise in the work industry and it's interesting to compare our time period with history.

The Investigator: A British Crime Story is a British TV series first released in 2016. The series it self is played on ITV, which is a British documentary program. The 4 episode series talks about the major crimes that dates back to the 1980's. Mark William Thomas the investigator, focuses re-visits a case on the murder of Carole Packman. He is the main speaker of the series and attempts to unravel the disappearance of Packman by conducting multiple interviews with family and friends. Each episode goes in chronological order of the life of Carole leading up to her disappearance. Carole mysteriously disappeared in 1985 and a body was never found to determined her cause of death. There was enough evidence, however to prove that her husband, Russell Packman had something to do with it. He was sentenced a lifetime in jail for the disappearance of Carole Packman. Throughout the series you start discovering the truth of the death of Carole Packman.

Bring It is a dance reality tv series that was first released in 2014 on Lifetime. The show is all a Mississippi dance team that travels all over to compete against the top teams. The main cast members on the show are Dianna Williams (the coach), Mimi, which is the mother of the captain of the team (Camryn), Kayla (the assistant coach) and her mom, Selena, who has the 3 girls on the team, and Rittany, which is the mother of the co-captain (Crystianna). The group of girls that are on this dance team happen to be the best , and the one that everyone wants to beat. Each week they have new battles, and even more drama. As teams get ready to go head to head, there can be backstage arguments between coaches, and even fights. The Dancing Dolls remain on top, and continue to get better and better.

Forged in Fire is a competition show that is aired on the History channel. Produced by Outpost Entertainment. Within each episode, there are four bladesmiths that will have to create a bladed weapon from start to finish. The show is set up with three different rounds where one contestant is eliminated at the end. They are competing for the grand prize of $10,000. The show is hosted by Wil Willis and the help of three other judges. Each episode there is a different theme and style of weapon. I think this show is worth your time as it shows the hands-on craft of blacksmithing, something that is an art of its own.

Falling Skies begins six months after a global invasion by extraterrestrials, where in only days, the invaders neutralized the world's power grid and technology, defeated and largely destroyed all the world's militaries, and killed over 90% of the human population by destroying all of the world's major cities and capitals.  The aliens include mechanical attack drones called "Mechs"; a species of light brown-skinned six-legged beings known as "Skitters" that appear to control the mechs; and a mysterious species known as the Overlords, or "Espheni", presumably the actual engineers of the invasion and the masters of the Skitters.The aliens' objectives are not explained until season 4. They plan to extract helium-3 from Earth's moon to power their technology, and to use humanity as an enslaved front-line army in their war with another alien race. To do this, the aliens round up children between the ages of 8 and 18 and attach a bio-mechanical mind control harness to their spines. Forcibly removing it generally kills the child, but midway through season 1, a surgical method is developed that allows a harness to be safely removed, leaving in place the "spikes" that connected the harness to the spinal column.

Red Oaks revolves around NYU film school student David  in the summer of 1985 who is going through the transition between senior year of high school and his start at the NYU film school. In between said transition he is able to score a summer job at the Red Oaks Country Club in New Jersey as a assistant tennis pro. Which comes with an array of quirky and interesting clientele and coworkers. Each and every one of the characters having a hand in trying and helping David makes his directing dream a reality. While his father wants him to buckle down and work at his financing firm as it is a more viable career to lean towards. Along with many personal problem surrounding his relationship with the aerobics instructor and his eye wandering to the daughter of one of the club's founding members. David has many decisions to make with very little time on the clock. Summer isn't infinite and David soon needs to make his mind up on what his future will look like.

Dr. Ken, aired from October 2015 to March 2017, is a show that about a Korean-American doctor who lives a normal life with his wife, who is a therapist, his teenage daughter and out of whack son. He struggles to keep everybody happy while still trying to run his doctors office smoothly. He is funny and basically a "cool" dad that has a good relationship with his kids despite all the obstacles thrown at him.

Home Movies is a comedy-filled adult cartoon, originally aired on UPN in 1999, that moved to Adult Swim in 2001 to 2004. This show revolves around three young friends, who are always together after school, making home movies to avoid the reality of their lives. Brendon Small  is the brains and producer behind their movies, that reflect his own emotions, fantasies, and life struggles, such as his parent's divorce and dealing with their unintelligent soccer coach, Coach McGuirk. Melissa Robbins is the sympathetic, straight A student, raised by a single father, and plays the actress in their movies. Jason Penopolis is ironically the messy oddball in the group, even though he comes from wealth, but who's parents never show any concern for, plays the actor in their movies. Lastly, Coach McGuirk, who's voice actor is also Bob on Bob's Burgers, Archer from Archer, and Jason's, sees these three kids as his friends, and tries to be a role model and stick up for them, though he constantly gives bad advice, has a tendency to be rude, and drinks frequently. The show revolves around their everyday life, and with all the laughter and escapes, comes life lessons they learn along the way.

Aired in Spring 2011, under Manglobe Studios, Deadman Wonderland was based off of its manga that was previously published. The Mist is a TV show adaptation of the Stephen King story of the same name. The show is available to stream on Netflix. A strange mist has come upon a small town. Don't Be Tardy is an American Reality television show that follows the lives of Kim Zolciak, and her husband Kroy Biermann. Dark Tourist is a new Netflix Original TV series that first premiered in July of 2018. The whole concept of the show is to highlight the subset of tourism. Station 19 is an American drama series from Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder creator and executive producer, Shonda Rhimes. Fleabag is a black comedy about a middle-aged woman struggling with the guilt and turmoil caused by casual romantic hook-ups and an unhealthy family dynamic. Written by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the series has us rooting for the lead character before revealing her deep flaws, causing the viewer to question her motives and their choice to follow along and laugh through it all. Waller-Bridge is constantly breaking the fourth way, drawing the viewer in and further implicating them in the story. The show is both cynical and hilarious. After the snow melts in the Afgan mountains, the fighting season begins. This documentary series show the struggles of war, and the challenges faced by our American soldiers when the time came to withdraw from Afghanistan in 2014. This show follow the officers and enlisted men of America's military while in the process of making Afghanistan self governing state, and helping them hold their first national democratic election. The Fighting Season goes beyond just bullets and bombs, and shows the brotherhood formed between the Americans and the Afgan National Army. In this Netflix Original Series Bill Nye the Science Guy is back with a new show. In the show Nye does a number of experiments that are intriguing to the human eye or strange-but-true types of experiments.  What makes this show interesting compared to the old Bill Nye television shows that I watched as a kid is that there are celebrities that appear in almost every episode to keep the viewer engaged.

I chose this show because my friend and comedian, Baron Vaughn is the social media coordinator in the show and it's relevant to this course. It's set in the corporate office of some conglomerate (also relevant to this course). One of the characters even says, "I feel like I never use my communications degree. As the title of the show indicates, this series is about a father depicting actual conversations he had with his- at the time- two year old daughter re-enacted by a full grown man. His daughter is surprisingly intelligent and sassy for a two year old, and the guy who plays her does it brilliantly. Gallagher, Aaron (MW) Better Off Ted 100

Better Off Ted is an absurdist satire of life in a modern soulless corporation. The titular character, Ted, is a mid-level executive, a single dad with a precocious daughter. Ted seems to be either unaware or intentionally ignoring the fact that Veridian Dynamics, his corporation, is intentionally, if comically, evil. His direct boss is a cheerfully amoral woman named Veronica. She is in love with Ted, who is put off by her relentless drive to succeed no matter the cost. Ted's love interest is a quality control manager named Linda who can actually see the evil Veridian perpetrates, and can't understand why no one else can. She serves as Ted's conscience. In addition to a revolving cast of unique and oddball characters are Phil and Lem, the Verdian research scientists who actually implement the company's directives. Although it only ran two seasons, it was extremely funny and showed a new take on the 'wacky workplace' trope.

The unsolved murder of Cathy Cesnik, a beloved nun and Catholic high school, shocks the community. Politics and religion obviously play a role. I think this would be a good show to tell the class because there's a lot of gaps and mysteries to the death of the young woman.

Amazon Prime Series, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" is a comedy about Miriam Maisel, a Jewish woman living in New York in 1958.  Miriam has the perfect husband with two kids and incredible apartment on the upper west side. All of that comes crashing down when she finds out her husband Joel is having an affair with his secretary, However, something good does come from the affair because Miriam realizes that she has an incredible talent for stand up comedy. She finds a manager who believes in her and is ready to take her to the top. She goes from everyday housewife to the queen of stand up comedy. The series reflects on a woman fighting for a spotlight in a man's world.

Rosales, Orel (TTh) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 100

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a series based off Hirohito Araki's mindblowing manga series that started in 1987. The series focuses on the bizarre adventures of the Joestar bloodline. Season One focuses on the first Jojo, Johnathan Joestar and his quest to defeat his rival, Dio Brando, his adopted brother. The only problem is, Dio is a vampire and Johnathan is a normal human, but with the power of Hamon, sunlight energy, he can defeat Dio and put an end to his plans. The battle between these two would spark the events for the future Joestars. Each season is based off different Jojo's who are descendants of Johnathan Joestar. Each Jojo is different, in terms of personality and power. This series hit many people hard since it has an incredible story with amazing characters, as well as a lot of pop culture references. This series is amazing and it would've reached your eyes at some point in your life.

Uthoff, Danielle (MW) The End of the F*cking World 100

The Netflix series "The End of the F*cking World" is an entertaining series showing the adventure of two high school students over the course of only a few days. James, an anti-social (possibly sociopathic) teen feels the need to kill someone. Along comes Alyssa, a wayward, displeased teen, who is looking for a release, mainly by losing her virginity. The two make an unlikely pair as they decide to run away from their home lives to experience life elsewhere. The wants and needs of James and Alyssa eventually change as they begin to understand each other more in depth through the traumatic experiences they face together.

Hernandez, Edgardo (TTh) The Detour 100

TBS series, The Detour, is a road-trip comedy similar to that of National Lampoon's Vacation.  The first season sets the tone as a man takes an opportunity to expose his company for drug use and turns it into a family vacation. Traveling from Syracuse to Florida, the family attempts to bond and encounters multiple obstacles, from visiting a misleading ice-cream shop to being accused of kidnapping their own children to having car problems. The first and second season of The Detour can be streamed on Hulu, while the 3rd season is currently airing on TBS at 9 pm on Tuesdays.

Rotten is a docu-series based on the unveiling the truth in the food industry. It goes into depth about the corruption and fraud that occur everyday in the field. The series is an eye opening take on the everyday food we consume.

Fierros, Matthew (MW) Kamen Rider Drive 100

 Kamen Rider Drive is a Japanese Tokusatsu, a genre of film or TV show that uses a lot of special effects, drama that was released in 2005. The show is about officer Shinnosuke Tomari, who has been 'demoted' to the Special Investigated Divisons, a group that looks into strange happenings in the city. During his investigation Shinnossuke is chosen to become the newest Kamen Rider and is tasked with battling the forces that plan on taking over the world by eliminating humanity. It may sound crazy and strange, but that's because it. This show in my opinion is the perfect mix of drama, action, and cheesy stupidity. It is also shows how another cutler handles themes, such as drama and super heroes, compared to us.

Schitt's Creek is a tv series about a wealthy family who becomes bankrupt due to their unqualified accountant who forgets to pay their bills. The government confiscates most of their things and sells their mansion but allows the family to live in a town that they bought as a joke called Schitt's Creek. The comedic show reveals the struggles that the family faces while living a completely different lifestyle from what they are used to.

Good Doctor is a show on ABC about a young talented doctor who has autism and savant syndrome.  The show revolves around how the character uses his gifts to save lives and about his journey on being accepted with his peers. I usually dislike medical shows because they all feel the same and generic, but the writing and acting push pretty powerful episodes.

Roommates is a two-season YouTube series produced by Jeenyus Entertainment.  It chronicles the lives of five roommates in Los Angeles and the crazy situations they constantly get themselves into.  The cast were roommates when they filmed both seasons and the guest stars are their friends and acquaintances from past projects.  Here is a PSA-style promo for the series!
