Long, Braeden (MW) Bill Nye Saves the World

In this Netflix Original Series Bill Nye the Science Guy is back with a new show. In the show Nye does a number of experiments that are intriguing to the human eye or strange-but-true types of experiments.  What makes this show interesting compared to the old Bill Nye television shows that I watched as a kid is that there are celebrities that appear in almost every episode to keep the viewer engaged.

Corporate airs on Comedy Central on Wednesdays 10/9c. You can also watch full episodes on Comedy Central's Website. I chose this show because my friend and comedian, Baron Vaughn is the social media coordinator in the show and it's relevant to this course. It's set in the corporate office of some conglomerate (also relevant to this course). One of the characters even says, "I feel like I never use my communications degree. I mean, I am talking right now, so that's something." I want to inspire my fellow classmates to use their degrees to be creators opposed to falling into the corporate "cubicle purgatory". As the title of the show indicates, this series is about a father depicting actual conversations he had with his- at the time- two year old daughter re-enacted by a full grown man. His daughter is surprisingly intelligent and sassy for a two year old, and the guy who plays her does it brilliantly. This series which is now in an eighth season, was created in 2013 by Matthew Clarke. It is paid for by Matthew Clarke, and is low budget because it's mostly shot in their own home. Frontier is a Netflix produced drama co-created by Brad Peyton, Rob Blackie, and Peter Blackie. The series explores the North American fur trade of the 1700, primarily taking place in Canada. Frontier follows Declan Harp played by Jason Momoa, a half-Irish, half-Cree outlaw who is attempting to diminish the Hudson's Bay Company's monopoly on the fur trade in Canada. This is due to Harp's personal history while working with the Hudson's Bay Company and the tragedy they caused him.

Gallagher, Aaron (MW) Better Off Ted 100

Better Off Ted is an absurdist satire of life in a modern soulless corporation. The titular character, Ted, is a mid-level executive, a single dad with a precocious daughter. Ted seems to be either unaware or intentionally ignoring the fact that Veridian Dynamics, his corporation, is intentionally, if comically, evil. His direct boss is a cheerfully amoral woman named Veronica. She is in love with Ted, who is put off by her relentless drive to succeed no matter the cost. Ted's love interest is a quality control manager named Linda who can actually see the evil Veridian perpetrates, and can't understand why no one else can. She serves as Ted's conscience. In addition to a revolving cast of unique and oddball characters are Phil and Lem, the Verdian research scientists who actually implement the company's directives. Although it only ran two seasons, it was extremely funny and showed a new take on the 'wacky workplace' trope.

Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams is a science fiction series based off the work of Phillip K. Dick. There is currently one season and each episode is its own story and concept. Neo Yokio is an American-Japanese animated program made by Ezra Koenig, who is in the band Vampire Weekend. It's a Netflix original based in a alternate modern day New York City. He's your average private school rich kid, except for one major thing. Comrade Detective is a comedy show released last year as an Amazon Prime original. The show touts itself as being an 80's cop drama from Romania that was recently dubbed in English. Featuring the voice talents of Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Nick Offerman, the show skews both communism and the eighties in general, and was good enough to keep my dad watching till the end, and he rarely finishes a two hour movie, let alone an entire season.

Search Party is a dark comedy Cable TV show on TBS. It has had two seasons with 10 episodes each season. It's about five millennial "friends" in New York who are very self-absorbed. The main girl "Dory" played by Alia Shawkat becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to her college acquaintance "Chantal" when she finds out she's missing. This show is filled with mystery and plenty of cliffhangers. It's very serious, but two rich and kinda famous characters make it hilarious.

Rita, a Danish Netflix original is about a school-teacher and her life as a mother, coworker, daughter and teacher. Her outspoken and apologetic attitude puts her in several predicaments, but she stands for what she believes in and that's why I appreciate her character so much. The Comeback is a dramatic comedy that originally premiered on HBO June 5, 2005. Starring Lisa Kudrow, of FRIENDS fame, as Valerie Cherish. Hamilton's Pharmecopeia is a show on Viceland that follows Hamilton Morris as he goes on an incredible journey through the history, chemistry and societal impacts of the world's most extraordinary drugs. In each episode, he travels to the place where the particular drug originated and partakes in it. After Hamilton experiences the drug, he wakes up the next day and reflects on the entire experience. The show also illustrates the science behind each drug, as well as its current relevance in society.

Barrow, Breann (MW) Famous In Love 100

Famous in Love is an American Drama series that premiered on Freeform April 18, 2017,  based off the novel, which has the exact same name. Starring Ex-Disney starlet Bella Throne as lead Paige Townsen, the plot follows college student Paige as she struggles through everyday teenage problems, but then takes an exciting twist when she lands a role in a huge block-buster movie. Now having to learn how to be Hollywood's new "it" girl and hang on to past relationships while she also has to build new ones, Paige is learning that fame and fortune is not everything she expected. This show was something I was skeptical about watching at first, but after the first episode I was instantly hooked into the drama and raw talent from the actors. Other people are too, as it just announced it's second season to air April 4, 2018. The show is produced by Marlene King, who also produced the hit show Pretty Little Liars. The Last Tycoon is based on a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald that is set in Hollywood in the 1930's. A big time producer falls in love with an Irish actress who becomes a Hollywood icon. Boruto is a spin-off and sequel to Naruto: Shippuden. The series is a Japanese Maga/anime created by Mamashi Kishimoto streamed on Hulu and new episodes air every Wednesday.  Boruto is the protagonist of the series, he is the child of the Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki (the head of the village). American Vandal is a television mockumentary series on Netflix that satires true crime documentaries. The first season follows the aftermath of a high school prank that left multiple faculty and staff cars vandalized. Class clown Dylan Maxwell is blamed for the vandalism due to his reputation and expelled from school. Sophomore Peter Maldonado decides to film an investigative documentary to uncover the truth behind the vandalism and prove Dylan's innocence. 9-1-1 is a brand new series that aired on Fox on January 3, 2018. You can also watch episodes online on the Fox website and on Hulu the day after an episode airs. The show explores the high-pressure experiences of police, paramedics and firefighters who are put into the most frightening and dangerous situations each day. They must try to balance saving people with solving problems in their own lives. The shows main stars are Angela Bassett who plays LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant, Peter Krause who plays Firefighter Chief Bobby Nash, Connie Britton who plays 911 operator Abby Clark, and Oliver Stark who plays fireman Evan Buckley. The shows executive producers and writers are Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The production companies responsible for the show are Reamworks, Ryan Murphy Television and 20th Century Fox Television. Overall the show keeps you on the edge of your seat when you're watching these people during dangerous situations and whether or not these situations will end on a high or low note. This tv series goes through the explanation of how behavioral science became in existence within the FBI due to interviews with serial and psychopathic killers still in prison to this day. The series takes place in the 1970s when people were not advantaged by technology. This show was extremely well presented, contained excellent gritty interviews that will make the viewer want to watch episode after episode. It is not quite necessarily a documentary, as it is the beginning of an understanding of how serial killers are formed.

Imposters is about a con artist named Maddie, who finds women and men to con by making them fall in love with her, marrying them and then stealing all their money. Maddie is not alone in her artistry, she works for a guy named the Doctor who is the man who comes up with the plan and chooses the people she cons and she also has two other people she work with that help her succeed in her scam. In the current scam the doctor has them on Maddie falls in love with someone and everything changes from that point, also the last three people she conned all come together and work with one another to get back at Maddie. It is a very good drama, with a lot of plot twists that you do not see coming.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a series based off Hirohito Araki's mindblowing manga series that started in 1987. The series focuses on the bizarre adventures of the Joestar bloodline. Season One focuses on the first Jojo, Johnathan Joestar and his quest to defeat his rival, Dio Brando, his adopted brother. The only problem is, Dio is a vampire and Johnathan is a normal human, but with the power of Hamon, sunlight energy, he can defeat Dio and put an end to his plans. The battle between these two would spark the events for the future Joestars. Each season is based off different Jojo's who are descendants of Johnathan Joestar. Each Jojo is different, in terms of personality and power. This series hit many people hard since it has an incredible story with amazing characters, as well as a lot of pop culture references. This series is amazing and it would've reached your eyes at some point in your life.

The Netflix series "The End of the F*cking World" is an entertaining series showing the adventure of two high school students over the course of only a few days. James, an anti-social (possibly sociopathic) teen feels the need to kill someone. Along comes Alyssa, a wayward, displeased teen, who is looking for a release, mainly by losing her virginity. The two make an unlikely pair as they decide to run away from their home lives to experience life elsewhere. The wants and needs of James and Alyssa eventually change as they begin to understand each other more in depth through the traumatic experiences they face together.

TBS series, The Detour, is a road-trip comedy similar to that of National Lampoon's Vacation.  The first season sets the tone as a man takes an opportunity to expose his company for drug use and turns it into a family vacation. Traveling from Syracuse to Florida, the family attempts to bond and encounters multiple obstacles, from visiting a misleading ice-cream shop to being accused of kidnapping their own children to having car problems. The first and second season of The Detour can be streamed on Hulu, while the 3rd season is currently airing on TBS at 9 pm on Tuesdays.

 Kamen Rider Drive is a Japanese Tokusatsu, a genre of film or TV show that uses a lot of special effects, drama that was released in 2005. The show is about officer Shinnosuke Tomari, who has been 'demoted' to the Special Investigated Divisons, a group that looks into strange happenings in the city. During his investigation Shinnossuke is chosen to become the newest Kamen Rider and is tasked with battling the forces that plan on taking over the world by eliminating humanity. It may sound crazy and strange, but that's because it. This show in my opinion is the perfect mix of drama, action, and cheesy stupidity. It is also shows how another cutler handles themes, such as drama and super heroes, compared to us.

The series I would like to present for the Finding Gold assignment is called She's Gotta Have It. This Netflix series is based off Spike Lee's 1986 film of the same name. Taking place in present-day Brooklyn, New York, Nola Darling is an aspiring artist, who has to balance being in multiple relationships with three different men. After going through a traumatic experience, Nola must find new inspiration for her art work. Also, she must decide if she will continue the relationships with her three suitors. Along with Nola Darling's struggles, the subjects of gentrification, racial profiling, body image, and sexuality are discussed in this series. She's Gotta Have It is a series that many would enjoy, and it spotlights issues that many are scared to talk about. I really hope you get the chance to watch this series.
