Espinoza, Edgar (TTH) Shadow and Bone 50
The series is based on a series of books by Leigh Bardugo. The world is a state of constant conflict between the Grisha (people with magical abilities) and non-Grisha. What stands in their way is The Fold, created by a Grisha known as the Black Heretic, which is a land of darkness and killer creatures. The only thing that can make The Fold go away is the Ein Summoner, which is a Grisha who can control light and make the darkness go away. We are then introduced to the main character Alina Starkov who is a mapmaker for her country's army. When going on a mission into The Fold, it is discovered when their party is attacked that she in in fact The Sun Summoner of legend. That is when the General of the Girsha army, Kirigan, descendent of the Grisha who started The Fold, takes her away to train her on her new powers. When training with Kirigan, Alina finds out his dark secret that he is in fact the Grisha who started The Fold and he needs to absorb her powers in order to become unstoppable.
