Inspired by the memoir of Deborah Feldman, Unorthodox is a Netflix original series depicting the life of Esty Shapiro, a Hasidic Jewish woman living in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood. She finds herself greatly dissatisfied with her life a year into her arranged marriage with her husband Yanky. She flees to Berlin to escape her marriage and community and reconnects with her long-lost mother. Unorthodox is four episodes long and is directed by Maria Schrader. Esty Shapiro is played by Shira Haas and Yanky Shapiro is played by Amit Rahav.
