Gray, Cassie (TTh) Escaping Polygamy 50
Escaping Polygamy is one of my favorite documentary/ reality TV series. It has 4 seasons and follows the religion known as polygamy and one of its biggest groups better known as "The Order" or the Kingston's. Polygamy is a plural marriage based on the premise that to get into the highest level of heaven, you must participate in plural marriage. This is basically one man with one legal wife and several "spiritual wives", being that actual plural marriage is illegal. The show follows a few prominent personalities, Jessica, Shanell, and Andrea. These women, as well as a few others, featured in other episodes, all escaped polygamy themselves at some point in their lives and have made a pact to help others who want to escape. These girls shine a light on a "religion" that actually checks enough boxes to be classified as a cult. These women show the truth behind this secretive religion and the brainwashing, neglect, and abuse that it actually thrives on. If you are a fan of documentaries, this is a great option. Not only do you get to see the experience of victims escaping, but you see them adjust to the real world, and hear their stories of what they experienced. This show is available on HULU, the Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Lifetime.
